The terms, before you start

Listing is free. There is no fee to be listed, no fee to be verified, no annual renewal and no premium tier. We do not invoice organizations for anything.

There is no paid placement. You cannot buy a higher position, a featured slot, a badge, or the removal of a competitor. Payment is not an input to how results are ordered, and there is no mechanism through which it could become one.

A listing is not an endorsement. Inclusion in the directory is not a recommendation, certification or approval by True Trade Path, and it is not a statement that your work is good. We describe what we verified and when. You may state accurately that you are listed on truetradepath.com; you may not describe yourself as certified, approved, endorsed or recommended by us, because you are not.

We do not sell leads. Visitors contact you directly using the details you provide. We do not sit between you and your customer and we do not charge you for the call.

The consent requirement

A listing requires authorisation from the organization

Only a person authorised to act for the organization may submit or approve a listing. Your submission must include your name, your role and a contact number we can use to confirm that authorisation, and it should be sent from an email address at the organization’s own domain. We do not accept listings submitted by marketing agencies, lead brokers, reputation-management firms or any third party without written authorisation from the organization itself. Consent can be withdrawn at any time, and when it is withdrawn the listing is removed.

We publish only business contact information — the details you already advertise publicly. Do not send us home addresses, personal mobile numbers, staff personal details or anything you would not put on your own website. The full sourcing and consent policy is on the trust and methodology page.

How to submit

Submissions are handled by email. Send one message to listings@truetradepath.com containing the information listed below for your listing type, using the subject line given with it. Plain text in the body of the email is ideal. A link to the pages on your own site that carry the same information speeds up verification considerably.

A web form is coming

A structured submission form is in development. Until it is in place, email is the submission route, and it has one real advantage: you keep a copy of exactly what you consented to publish, and so do we. The buttons below open your mail client with the correct address and subject line already filled in.

What to include, by listing type

Send everything under “required”. A submission missing required items waits rather than being rejected, but it will not be published until it is complete.

Trade business

Licensed contractors and service businesses: electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roofing, carpentry, concrete, welding, appliance and equipment service.

Required information

  • Legal business name, and the trading name if it differs.
  • Physical business address, or the city and state plus the counties served if you operate without a storefront.
  • Public phone number and public email address.
  • Website address.
  • Trade categories you want to be listed under, and the specific services within each.
  • Service area, stated as counties, cities or a radius from a base.
  • State contractor or trade licence number, the issuing state, and the licence class.
  • Confirmation that you carry general liability insurance, and workers' compensation where you have employees.
  • Year the business was established.
  • Name and role of the person authorising the listing.

Useful if you have it, and often the reason a visitor chooses you

  • Emergency or after-hours availability, and the hours it covers.
  • Manufacturer certifications and trade credentials, with the issuing body.
  • Union affiliation and local number.
  • Languages spoken by field staff.
  • Specialisations worth distinguishing you: historic properties, commercial only, specific equipment lines.
  • Whether you offer written estimates, and whether an estimate carries a fee.

What we will verify

We check your licence number against the issuing state's public register and confirm the licence class and status. We confirm the business registration against the Secretary of State filing where one is required. We call the published number. We do not verify insurance coverage, work quality or customer satisfaction, and we do not inspect your work.

  • Campus address, main phone number and admissions email address.
  • Website address, and the direct address of the program page.
  • Programs offered in the trades, listed individually.

  • For each program: published total cost of attendance, itemised into tuition, fees, tools and books.
  • Accreditation, naming the accrediting body, and programmatic accreditation where it applies.
  • Whether the institution participates in federal financial aid, and its OPE ID if so.
  • Licensing or certification exams the program prepares students to sit.
  • Name and role of the person authorising the listing.

Useful if you have it, and often the reason a visitor chooses you

  • Published completion and placement rates, with the cohort period and the methodology.
  • Employer partners and any guaranteed-interview arrangements.
  • Articulation agreements with registered apprenticeship programs.
  • Available start dates through the year.
  • Tool kit provided, and whether its cost is included in tuition.
  • Veteran benefit eligibility and Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act approval.

What we will verify

We confirm accreditation against the accreditor's published roster and, where you participate in federal aid, against the U.S. Department of Education's institution records. We confirm that published program costs match the figures on your own website. We do not evaluate teaching quality, and we do not repeat a completion or placement claim we cannot trace to a published source.

  • Pre-apprenticeship or direct-entry pathways, including veteran and diversity programs.
  • Benefits during the apprenticeship: health coverage, pension, annuity.
  • College credit awarded on completion.

What we will verify

We confirm the program's registration against the U.S. Department of Labor or the relevant state apprenticeship agency record and check that the registration is active. We confirm the application process and intake window against your own published material. We do not predict your chance of being accepted.

What happens next, and when

  1. Acknowledgement

    Within 3 business days

We confirm receipt and tell you whether anything required is missing. An incomplete submission is not rejected; it waits until you send the remainder.

  2. Verification

Within 10 business days of a complete submission

We perform the checks described for your listing type and come back to you with anything we could not confirm. Where a public record disagrees with your submission, we tell you what the record says and ask you to resolve it.

  3. Publication

Within 15 business days of a complete submission

The listing goes live with the status mark earned by the checks we completed and the date they were performed. You receive the live address and a summary of what we published.

  4. Re-verification

On a rolling schedule, at least annually

We re-check licence status and key details. A verification that has gone stale loses its badge rather than keeping it by default, so we will contact you before that happens.

The status mark your listing will carry

Every listing carries exactly one status mark describing the check we completed and the date we completed it. Completing our questionnaire earns the first of these. Nothing earns a mark that implies we have approved you.

  • Information confirmed by organization
  • Verified against a public source
  • Community reviewed
  • Not yet verified

What each mark claims, and specifically what it does not claim, is set out in full at the verification badge policy.

Common questions

Does it cost anything to be listed?
No. Listing is free, verification is free, and there is no paid tier. We do not charge organizations anything, and we never will, because a directory that bills the organizations it describes is answerable to them rather than to the people reading it.
Can I pay to appear higher in results?
No. Results are ordered by distance, relevance, verification status and the filters a visitor selects. Payment is not an input. Completing verification is the only thing that moves a listing up, and it costs nothing but the time to answer our questions.
Will you sell my listing as a lead product?
No. We do not operate a lead-generation business. Visitors contact you using the phone number, email address and website you gave us. We do not intercept enquiries, we do not sell them to you or to anyone else, and we do not charge you per call.
What does the badge on my listing say about my business?
Only what we checked and when. The strongest mark we issue reads "Information confirmed by organization", which means you told us the published details are correct. It is not a certification, an endorsement or a quality rating, and we will not describe it as one.
Can I be removed after being listed?
Yes, at any time and without giving a reason. Email us from an address at the organization's domain and the listing comes down, typically within five business days. The process is described on the update or remove a listing page.
We are not licensed because our state does not license our trade. Can we still be listed?
Yes. Where a state does not license a trade, say so in your submission and we will verify the business registration instead. We will not publish a licence number you do not hold, and we will not imply a licence exists where the state does not issue one.
